Destination Sydney

The Rocks

The Rocks is the site of Australia’s first European settlement in 1788, and the home of ACL. The Rocks, with its cobblestone laneways and beautiful sandstone buildings, is a wonderful blend of Sydney’s past and present, a village filled with restaurants, cafes, art galleries and shops. The Rocks is next to Sydney Harbour and only a short walk to the Opera House.

Shopping
The Rocks Market is held every weekend. It has more than 170 stalls featuring unique arts and crafts, homewares, jewellery and other Australian-designed goods.

The Rocks also has many small shops specialising in antiques, arts and crafts, the latest fashions, gifts and homewares, books, souvenirs, toys and jewellery.

Music
The Rocks Square features live music performances every day, all of them free of charge. The square is a great spot to have lunch and a coffee while enjoying all sorts of music from funk and folk to jazz and classical.

Art
The Rocks is home to Sydney’s famous Museum of Contemporary Art. You can also visit the Toy Museum, the Military Museum and Colonial House Museum.

Special Interest
From the Sydney Observatory at The Rocks you can see the southern sky using one of the oldest telescopes in Australia.

Discover the hidden secrets and histories of Sydney’s oldest pubs on the Rocks Pub Tour, one of the many organised walking tours around The Rocks.
