Advocacy and Community Awareness Raising
Both ACL and STARTTS play a pivotal role in providing Advocacy and Community Awareness Raising activities for mainstream agencies, settlement service providers and prospective Proposers.
Activities include the provision of Proposer information sessions, training for mainstream agencies, participation on advisory committees, and attendance at and chairing various forums and interagencies. Where training is provided to mainstream agencies, there is an emphasis on the need for cultural sensitivity and adapting to refugee needs.
ACL provides Proposer information sessions in conjunction with various agencies such as Centrelink, Settlement Grants Providers, DIAC and STARTTS. Typically these sessions will provide Proposers and potential Proposers with information about what to expect when they propose a family member or a friend, and what assistance they can receive through IHSS. The sessions can be targeted towards Proposers or potential Proposers according to geographic regions or cultural backgrounds. If you would like to have a Proposer information session in your area or for your community, please contact the IHSS Promotions and Training Coordinator on 02 9749 3316.
