Free Document Translation Service

The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) provides a free translation service for people settling in Australia permanently. Documents that need to be translated into English can be lodged at an ACL AMEP College.

Eligible students can request to have eligible documents translated into English from variety of categories such as:

  • Identity documents
  • Marriage and relationship certificates
  • Educational certificates and qualifications

To be eligible for the Free Document Translation Service, both the applicant and the document must meet the eligibility criteria as set out by the DIAC. To find out if you are eligible for this service contact an ACL AMEP College or visit the DIAC website.

To access the Free Document Translation Service

  • Attend an ACL College with all documents that need to be translated
  • Provide evidence of your eligibility for the service e.g. passport with entry stamp or visa label
  • Bring original documents as well as copies certified by a Justice of the Peace

Note: only eligible documents will be accepted and forwarded to the translation service provider. The translation is limited to an extract or a summary of no more than 100 words.
